The Palm Springs Public Library Foundation is offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the transformation of the Palm Springs Public Library, one of renowned architect William F. Cody's final designs.
As part of Modernism Week 2027, a limited series of guided tours will allow guests to step behind the construction fence for a rare look inside the library while the project is underway. The building, currently closed to the public, is undergoing a major transformation that will uphold Cody's vision while updating the facility to meet the community's evolving needs.
Ticket holders will have an opportunity to explore the library before construction is complete and learn how the project is working within original architectural features while reconfiguring interior spaces to better serve the community. Once open, the reimagined facility will offer spaces where people can learn, gather, create and connect.
The tours will highlight the library's original 1970s design and share how the project is incorporating new features and amenities while maintaining the character of this significant Palm Springs landmark. Those particularly interested in Palm Springs history, will find a unique opportunity to see the building's transformation before its anticipated reopening in 2027.
The final tour of each day will feature an enhanced experience, including an opportunity to meet Cathy Cody, daughter of architect William F. Cody. The special tour will also include a sparkling cider toast, light refreshments and a commemorative gift.
Presented by the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation, the tours are a fundraiser supporting the Foundation's mission to enhance library programs, collections and community engagement. Proceeds will help advance the Foundation's efforts to strengthen the Palm Springs Public Library as a community resource for generations to come.
Tickets to the tours, offered on February 12 and February 19, 2027, are available at: modernismweek.com
